In 1987 I was a youngster heading off to my first World Championships, in Holland, as a National Player. In 1991 I repeated this experience, this time in Belgium. Over the course of many years, I have been able to re-visit these places and see many more. Revisiting Holland and Belgium really brought home the opportunities that this sport can provide to players, officials and staff.

Twenty eight years later, I thoroughly relished in the opportunity to organise a training with a Dutch player I’d played against; played at a sports hall I’d trained at many times; relax and socialise with our team players at one of my favourite eating places; visit the Sikopi club (who inspired me and many others 28 years ago) and play against their new generation of members.

I am thrilled that we were able to provide this opportunity to the players and I know through contacts already made with KV Wageningen and now again with Sikopi, that this will continue.

Stay tuned for the final instalment, The Coach’s Thank-you’s
