Korfball Australia is pleased to announce the re-appointment of the National Team Coaches following a successful AOKC last year. This sees Isabel Teixeira return as Head Coach, with Warren Frederickson returning as Senior Assistant Coach. We’re delighted that both have accepted the offers presented to them, and are looking forward to working with them in the lead-up to the 2023 World Korfball Championships.
From here, the Korfball Australia Board will work with the appointed coaches to build out the rest of the coaching and support panel, including additional assistant coaches and a management team, in order to ensure the most effective preparation for the squad and eventual team as possible. Expressions of interest for players will be called for soon, and an information session for interested players will be held in conjunction with the 2023 Beach Korfball National Championships. A timetable for training camps and selection dates is also in the final stages of preparation. More information on all of these fronts will be available in due course.
Isabel Teixeira is a former Portuguese National Team player and Head Coach, having previously coached at EKC, WKC and World Games, achieving fantastic results over that time, including a bronze medal finish at the 2018 European Korfball A-Championship. Isabel also has a connection to Australia, having played in the 1999 World Championships in Adelaide, prior to taking the reins of the Australian National Team, and leading them to a bronze medal finish at the 2022 AOKC. Once again, Isabel will remain based in Portugal, and will travel to Australia and tournaments as required, and will work with a team of highly-qualified local assistant coaches to deliver her program, while remaining in regular contact with squad/team members.
Warren Frederickson will be a familiar face to many in Australia outside of the National Team program, most recently as Head Coach of Melbourne Korfball Club, the latest in a long history of Korfball involvement at all levels. Warren, as Senior Assistant Coach, was also intrinsically involved in the successful 2022 AOKC campaign, with the primary responsibility of delivering the training camp program in the lead up to the tournament, as well as all Assistant Coaching duties at the tournament itself. As the Australian face of the National Team Coaching Panel, Warren was the primary day-to-day contact for the players in the build up to the 2022 AOKC, a role he will reprise in the lead up to the 2023 World Korfball Championships.
Congratulations to both coaches on your appointment, and we’re looking forward to seeing what you can help the National Team achieve at the 2023 World Korfball Championships!
