In the lead-up to the upcoming cycle of International Tournaments, the Korfball Australia Board has been meeting to appoint a National Head Coach. It gives the Board great pleasure to announce the re-appointment of Phil Sibbons to the position, and wish him well in his upcoming journey. The appointment is for the upcoming 2018 Asia Oceania Korfball Championship, and pending qualification, the 2019 IKF World Korfball Championship.

Phil’s achievements as National Head Coach will be familiar to many of our regular readers, with recent successes including leading the National Team to a 2nd place finish at the 2014 Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship, and subsequent qualification for the 2015 IKF World Korfball Championship. An 11th placed finish there was good enough to qualify for the 2017 World Games, where, embracing his new Elite12 Performance Program, Phil led the team to a remarkable 6th place finish, Australia’s best result at a World Games for decades.

Phil’s main goal in the lead up to the World Games was to prepare a team that would compete well against the teams Australia were scheduled to play. This led to the creation of the Elite12 Performance Program, which is to be continued into the new tournament cycle. The goals for the next 2 years will be to increase competitiveness while giving back to the sport of Korfball in Australia by ensuring the National Squad take on a leading role with Youth Development.

More information on the National Squad formation and the appointing of the rest of the National High Performance Team will be released as it comes to hand. Congratulations Phil, and we wish you all the best.
