Following the recent retirement of former National Coach Phil Sibbons, the Korfball Australia Board were faced with the unenviable task of appointing a new coach to take the National Team to the 2019 IKF World Korfball Championships. Following an exhaustive recruitment process, it gives the Board great pleasure to announce Tim Miller as the new National Coach.

Tim is a familiar face to all within the Korfball community in Australia, having coached South Australian State League (and National Club Championship) teams between 1992 and 2006, and again from 2011 to the present, playing and refereeing all the while. Tim’s most recent tenure as Coach of Glenelg Korfball Club has resulted in many successes, including winning the 2011 National Club Championships.

Tim’s achievements within Korfball are not limited to domestic competitions, with Tim also having played in multiple international tournaments, from junior and youth level right through to senior World Championships. Tim has also been involved in the National Team setup previously, having been an assistant coach to both U23 and Open National Teams in recent years. On top of this involvement in the National Team setup, Tim has in recent years become a highly respected official within the International Korfball Federation. This has seen him be a member of the jury, or match-day administration panel, at 10 recent international tournaments, chairing the panel at 7 of these tournaments. This means that Tim has almost certainly seen more International Korfball than anyone in Australia, and probably most other parts of the world,  over the last decade. This experience on the world stage is sure to hold Tim in good stead when it comes to taking the helm of the National Team.

Now that the National Coach has been appointed, work will immediately begin on appointing the rest of the coaching staff, and forming the National Squad. Keep your eyes peeled for information on these fronts in the coming days.

Congratulations Tim, your appointment is well deserved, and we wish you all the best.
