As the preparations for the soon-to-start World Games continue, the Korfball Australia National Team Coaching Staff have appointed National Team Captains for the tournament. This is an enormous honour, and one that is not necessarily awarded for each tournament, meaning those players named have had to show themselves as truly deserving of the title. Korfball Australia would like to extend our congratulations to the two players selected, Jessica May and David Scroggs, and we’re sure you will do a fantastic job in your new role.

Jessica May will be familiar to even the most casual followers of Australian Korfball, having been a mainstay in the National Team for longer than she probably cares to admit. Throughout the last few tournament cycles, Jessica has embraced the role of senior squad member, being a constant source of experience and guidance, as well as remaining a member of the starting team. This experience and guidance has been welcomed by all members of all the squads she has been involved in, and being appointed captain is deserving recognition of these efforts.

David Scroggs is possibly a less familiar name, having last played for the National Team in 2006. However, he has returned to the National Team with a vengeance, and has consistently impressed the National Team Coaching Staff since rejoining the squad. His commitment, professionalism and natural leadership abilities have seen him slot back into the National Team seamlessly, and being appointed captain is a natural consequence of his standing within the National Team.

Recognition of these appointments can be found on the National Team hub, with the all-important “C” being added next to Jessica and David’s name on the team list, the first time this has ever been done.

Once again, congratulations to Jessica and David, and we wish you and the team the best of luck for the World Games, with Australia’s matches starting on the morning of the 22nd (ACST).
