Since the beginning of the year, the Korfball Australia Board has been working on plans to redevelop, revitalise and relaunch the National Team Program across all IKF age-groups. While the launch of this plan has been delayed due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the time has come to put this plan into action.

The first stage of the new era for the National Team Program is the appointment of the National Team Director. This newly created role will have ultimate responsibility for all aspects of the National Team Program, and will report directly to the Korfball Australia Board. As this is a newly created role, the exact scope of responsibilities will be defined in consultation with the successful applicant. It is expected that shortlisted applicants will be able to outline their proposals for the role during the interview process.

A preliminary role description, including a list of proposed responsibilities and suggested qualifications and experience, is below. Please note that this role is open to all applicants, and individuals with an involvement in elite level programs in other sports are encouraged to apply.

National Team Director Preliminary Role Description

Role

The National Team Director will be responsible for planning and delivering all aspects of a National Team Program across all levels of International competition. This is an ongoing role, to be reviewed annually by the Korfball Australia Board. This role is a volunteer role, which is unlikely to require travelling, and resources will be provided by Korfball Australia to facilitate all activities.

Responsibilities

This role is not expected to be a front-line coaching position, but is likely to have responsibilities more geared to a management and administration focus.

Some responsibilities may include:

  • Recruiting, interviewing, shortlisting and recommending Head Coach candidates for all age groups to the Korfball Australia Board
  • Working with the appointed Head Coaches to plan and deliver training programs for the National Squads at all age groups
  • Working with the appointed Head Coaches to plan and deliver talent identification programs within and without the existing Korfball community at all age groups
  • Working with the appointed Head Coaches to appoint National High Performance Team members for all age groups, including Assistant Coaches, Team Managers, Trainers, Physiotherapists etc as required
  • Setting the direction and focus of the National Team program, with a focus on continuity and progression through the age groups
  • Assisting in the selection of the National Team from the National Squad prior to International Competition
  • Reporting to the Korfball Australia Board at regular intervals on developments and activities of the various National Team Programs
  • Administrative tasks as required for entry into International Competitions eg submitting player long- and short-lists to the IKF, maintaining accurate WADA testing pool information etc
  • Working with the Korfball Australia Board to determine the exact scope of this new role
  • Working with the Korfball Australia Board to develop policies, procedures and guidelines around all aspects of a National Squad/Team program, including, but not limited to selection, eligibility and minimum requirements
